I like it alot!. So Welcome to Hanwell is a pretty good Indie Horror Game I really enjoyed the main mission locations and the atmosphere, puzzles and scares within. The open world part dident really work for me, I ended up just walking alone and with no encounters for a long time to reach my locations, I dident explore everything, cause i was pretty focused on the main story and just went for those main buildings - Jail, church, Hospital, power plant and the School. Open world is just too ambitious imo. I hope to see more from Nathan in the horror genre in the future, cause there really is potential, Should just have kept it indoors. Check out some gameplay.. The locations ( church, hospital, jail.) and all the scripted stuff that will happen there is really well done. But traveling between those locations: thats where the pain starts. Hanwell is just a dull town. it feels incomplete. You cant enter any other building than just the main locations. The fog is poorly made. enemies dont really feel that much threatening. Im enjoying this game just because Im sucker for open world walking simulators. But if you dont like that kind of games, then there is nothing for you. Rather go for Counsel of Hanwell, which is just focused on the main locations without the traveling between.. So anohter game that deffo wants to be silent hill, but just does'nt carry it off. With that said, the game however is at least half decent. It's just let down by some odd design choices. And also the fact the story (dull and predicatable as it is) feels half finished. The first design issue is combat, and weapon selection. Bascially you find weapons just laying around on the ground randomly. This means you can find loads of them, or sometimes absolutely none. As the enemeies are random spawned as you traverse the 'open' world section this often means you will get mobbed to death with nary a weapon in sight. Very frustrating. Comabt itself just becomes spam LMB as fast as you can as the block seems usless. Also annoying is the fact the radio that warns of nearby enemeies (with static) turns itself off as you load between open world and POI. This will also get you killed a few times. And the 'puzzles' in this game are very limited - basically find a key or find a code for a door. There is no real in depth puzzles at all. However the game does just about scrape past a positive review as the six main POI's have some pretty decent horror set pieces, and the perfomance in game was good throughout. Also the soundtrack is a cut above the average. If your after a silent hill knock off, there are worse games out there, but it may be worth waiting for a sale on this one.. terrifying game thumbs up for that. Good little open world to explore. Also nice atmosphere with the town having just that little SIlent Hill feeling to it. But that is where it ENDS. Instead of giving the player real weapons, you only get crap weapons and for some reason you have to drop them when entering a building??? What about giving us the good old pistol or shotgun? But it doesn't end there, the enemies are annoying as hell so you are supposed to be running from them, it would be okay if the enemies didn't teleport all over the place and the combat wasn't broken + you run so slow it's no use to even try to outrun any enemies. This games fails on too many aspects, they could have made a nice and entertaining game out of this. But instead for some reason there are some weird game design decisions that completely ruin the game(for me at least). Cannot recommend, maybe on sale, but be prepared to play an unpolished game.. I don't even know where to begin. I'm only 30 mins into the game and I can tell it's not even close to being finished. The second you leave the morgue, you're placed in the "Open world" to teach you how to use the raido to tell if enemies are near by, and how to use weapons (Namely a pipe, and axe) to kill them with. Great, that's fine and all. But it become a real problem when there are no ememies, the "Open World" it's just a literal football field wide area of grass and trees, with a giant wall that looks like it belonged to Outer Heaven's fortress. But if you even so much as touch that wall, you die. If you go out of bounds (Which is only protrayed by a vast empty land, you get a warning, and 5 seconds later, you die. There is no where to go in this area. Nothing to do, or kill(CORRECTION! I KILLED ONE, COUNT IT, ONE THING. That's all. Got an achievement for it.oooo). You're stuck in a limbo and if you try to leave, you die. I've reloaded the level( area? save?) many times trying to figure out what I am suppose to do, but every time it's the same. You're suck in a field, with trees, sometimes it rains, sometimes it gets foggy. I mananged to stay so long in that area that the sun came up so that I could have a good look around only to find.nothing. Is this normal? I've read the other reviews and they talk about buildings, a town, going into houses and such, but I can't even get to that part. I know I might be judging the game a bit harshly for only playing 30 mins, but come on. In 30 minutes I have been stuck in ONE AREA WITH NO WAY TO PROGRESS. I honestly can't tell if this is a bug, or simply an unfinished game. Either way, I wouldn;t want anyone else wasting money on this if this is all they get to deal with.
